Surgery of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR): A step-by-step approach

DOI: 10.5677/2012-1-12

Submitted by: Manish Nagpal, MS, FRCS, Vikram Mehta, MS

Proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) often leads to failure in retinal detachment surgery. Surgeons need to be well-versed in managing different aspects of retinal detachment complicated by PVR to achieve successful outcomes. Various techniques such as membrane peeling, dissection, air fluid exchange , endo-drainage, endo laser, the use of perfluorocarbon liquid (PFCL), retinectomies, etc., are illustrated in detail. Carefully assessing PVR and managing it well can improve surgical outcomes in these patients.

Keywords: proliferative vitreoretinopathy, retinal detachment, vitrectomy, perfluorocarbon liquid, silicon oil
